vocal–auditory channel

A term used in the study of COMMUNICATION to refer to one of the human sensory modes which can be used for the transmission and reception of information. It provides the frame of reference within which the study of PHONETICS proceeds, and constitutes the majority of the subject-matter of LINGUISTICS (which of course is also concerned with the written LANGUAGE).
