Why is the religious individual accused of being irrational?
12:15:32 2024-06-16 1848

The religious individual faces harsh accusations and attacks from non-religious trends in contemporary society, in that he does not possess an independent mental vision, so he is subordinate to the clergy in his faith, and this reveals the disruption of his mind?

This statement contains a fallacy that runs throughout its entirety.

Some religious youth have reached the point where they do not reveal their religious identity for fear of being accused or ridiculed!

We respond to these accusations, invalidate these fallacies, and silence the mockers by defining the concept of reason.

What is the meaning of reason that is agreed upon among people, no matter how different their circumstances are, how far apart their times are, or how different their environments, and customs are?

It is self-evident that what is meant by reason is not equivalent to madness, but rather what is meant by it is the ability to distinguish truth from falsehood, distinguish interests from harms, perceive causes and effects, establish evidence to prove or invalidate matters, and spontaneity in thinking and contemplation.

It is known that the meaning of reason in this sense is agreed upon by all people, regardless of their different circumstances, environments, times, beliefs, and sects. The religious individual only emerges from the principles of religion that are based on the foundation of reason as the basis for every belief and law. On the authority of the group of people of religion, the texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet have been charged with mentioning the role of the mind in the structure of faith, the imams of Ahl al-Bayt - peace be upon them - said:

(Whoever is wise will have a religion, and whoever has religion will enter Paradise), and the mind (is that by which the Most Merciful is worshiped and by which Paradise is earned), and (the mind is the guide of the believer)...

Rather, reason is considered a criterion that reveals religiosity. Then the Messenger of Allah - may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family - said: (If you see a man who prays a lot and fasts a lot, do not boast about him until you see how his mind is? Do not be concerned with people of religion who do not have a mind).

After this, do the fallacies that the irreligious are accused of hold up? The believer only submits to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet as educational laws by which he regulates his behavior and relationships. This is one of the clearest examples of rationality that reveal soundness in thinking and protection from chaos and tampering.
