Many students complain of wasting their efforts in studying, either by forgetting what they read or having difficulty recalling what they memorized during the exam, which causes some of them to become frustrated and feel sad.
This is due to a negative reason that can be summarized in two things:
The first: The priority of memorization without a complete understanding of the topics
Second: Neglecting methods of preparing for the exam, such as random review shortly before the exam.
In order to overcome these two issues and other reasons, all you have to do is follow these successful steps when studying for any exam:
The first step: Put all your attention to understanding the content and do not occupy your mind with expressions and words in this step.
Rather, read in a way that tries to determine what the course writer intended.
So you go through the process of (squeezing) words in order to extract (the core) of what is related to this subject and comprehend it in its entirety, and write down whatever forms of questions that come to your mind, such as explain, define, or enumerate... on an organized sheet of paper.
The second step: Take the role of the teacher and explain to your colleague or to yourself the topics of the course and use the questions that you wrote down previously. Here, open the course in front of you and use it to explain and express what you have understood.
During this step, you will discover the extent of your comprehension and understanding, and formulas for new questions will also arise in your mind, so write them down on that paper and color the lines and phrases that you must memorize.
The third step: Return to the course and begin memorizing the definitions, phrases, and terms that you have identified with colored pencils. Use the usual methods of repetition, summarizing the explanations in consistent phrases that capture the core of the topic explained, and the method of linking the information to tangible things that are familiar to you in order to help you remember, such as mental maps.
The fourth step: Take a written preliminary exam for yourself using pen and paper and answer the previous questions that are likely to be answered, discussion questions, etc., and feel the atmosphere as if you are actually taking an exam. This step will help you a lot in evaluating your performance in recalling and remembering and destroying the fear and dread inside you of the exam.
An hour or more before the exam, be careful not to engage in discussions with your colleagues about the subject, and do not review quickly and randomly, as it will harm the stability of your attention more than it benefits.
