Therapeutic education the main messages

■ Therapeutic education is about developing and making explicit well-established therapeutic strategies and not about turning educators into therapists.

■ To acknowledge that simple behavioral approaches (e.g. rewards and sanctions), even when applied on a whole-school basis, will not develop confidence or deal with a significant number of children’s difficulties.

■ It is possible to develop a therapeutic and humanistic approach to learners and to the curriculum, by changing the school ethos and creating a more interactive curriculum.
