NMR active nuclei in group 13 elements

All the group 13 elements possess at least one isotope that is NMR active (Table 1.1).

In particular, routine use is made of ¹¹B NMR spectroscopy in the characterization of B-containing compounds. The ²⁰⁵Tl nucleus is readily observed, and, since Tl‏ behaves similarly to Na‏ and K‏, replacement of these group 1 metal ions by Tl‏ allows ²⁰⁵Tl NMR spectroscopy to be used to investigate Na- or K-containing biological systems.
