English Vowels SUMMARY

We looked at the vowels and diphthongs of American English and their contextual variants. Since the dialectal variations in vowels are far greater than those of consonants, the discussion was focused on the US varieties. Non-US varieties are given in summary lists. Regarding the consonants, knowledge of the highly rule-governed nature of vowel variations is invaluable for practitioners in the fields of communication disorders and foreign language teaching.
