The structural properties of -ify derivatives

The number of attested neologisms in -ify is rather small in comparison to the number of -ize derivatives. It would seem at first sight that the small number does not allow for robust generalizations, but we will show that this is not the case. There is strong empirical evidence that -ify and -ize are phonologically conditioned allomorphs.
