In sociolinguistics, forms of address used between people who mutually perceive their relationship to be one of intimacy. Examples in English include love, dear, honey, mate. Such forms can also be used asymmetrically, when only one participant uses them (as in service encounters, when a customer uses one but a shop assistant does not, or vice versa).
