demotion (n.)
A term used in RELATIONAL GRAMMAR for a class of relation changing PROCESSES in which a NOUN PHRASE bearing a particular grammatical relation to some VERB comes to bear another grammatical relation to that verb, which is lower down the relational HIERARCHY. An example would be a process which converted a SUBJECT to an OBJECT.
