has a field produced by a coil of large wire, wound on the field magnets, that is in series with the external circuit. Figure1 shows how the connection is made from the upper brush around the field magnets, then through the external circuit, and back to the lower brush. If S N the resistance of the external circuit is increased, the current decreases, and consequently the magnetization of the field and the E. M. F. of the dynamo are decreased. If the resistance of the external circuit is decreased, both the magnetization of the field and the E. M. F. of the dynamo increase.
