Don't blame yourself because you don't deserve this; The situation itself is difficult enough, and you may be going through the same pain yourself, in addition to watching your child suffer, and you do not need to make it worse for yourself. Just take it easy on yourself.
Remember, your child does not expect you to perform miracles; He is not stupid, and he knows that there is nothing you can do. All you can do for him now is give him your love and affection, and that is what you should do and nothing more. This will probably relieve you both, even if just a little.
