Recent studies have warned people against excessive intake of sweets that harm dental health, in addition to wrong foods and habits that also harm oral health. This is according to what was published by the Daily Mail.

  Dental enamel is the hardest mineral substance in your body, said Dante Devotti, a dentist at Columbia University in New York City. But prolonged exposure to acid, especially acidic liquids, can demineralize and erode teeth. This makes them more susceptible to decay.

  And the doctor continued: "Drinking one cup of coffee, tea, juice, or any other drink in one sitting is better for your teeth than drinking one cup throughout the day." It may take up to an hour for the pH levels in your mouth to neutralize to the protective range.

  And when you drink the same drink regularly, saliva doesn't have time to raise the pH, noting that soft drinks are the worst.

  The dentist added that drinking soda is basically a bath of sugary acids for the teeth, and sugar not only lowers the pH level, but it is also a food source for harmful bacteria that creates a cycle of destruction for your teeth. The bacteria consume sugars and turn them into acid, which reduces acidity levels even further.

  Good oral habits include brushing and flossing after eating and drinking, such as eating snacks or drinking beverages throughout the day, to have the same effect on our dental health.
