Winning people over
8:24:18 2023-04-03 490

1- Avoid arguing with the other party: The best way to win an argument is to avoid it. If you argue, challenge, and contradict, you may be able to win sometimes, but it is a hollow victory, because you will lose - in any case - your good relationship with you’re the person you're arguing with. What do you prefer: a hollow victory, or a good relationship with the other person? You rarely win both. And as the old wisdom says: The man who is forced to believe what he does not believe is still at his first belief.

2- Respect the opinions of the other person and refrain from pointing out that he's wrong: It is better for a person not to start his speech by saying to the addressee: (I will prove this or that to you), because this statement is equivalent to saying: (I am smarter than you and more capable than you, and I will teach you a lesson to cancel what is going on in your mind), and this arouses the obstinacy of the other person even before the person begins to speak. And if one wants to prove something, it is better not to announce it in advance, and to prove it with grace and tact so that the other hardly feels it.

And if a person thinks that a speaker made a mistake, or asserts his mistake, then it is better to say to him: With all due respect to your opinion, I see another opinion, and I may be wrong, so if I made a mistake, correct my mistake, so let us test our opinions.

3- Admitting mistakes: If a person realizes that he is wrong, then it is better to acknowledge his mistake before it is noted by the other party, because it is better for one to listen to the criticism directed at him from himself than to listen to criticism from another person.

4- Speak kindly and softly and abandoning anger and violence: Naturally, a person cannot convince another person or win him over to his point of view if the latter's heart is filled with anger and hatred for him, and from here, the use of kindness and softness with others is a matter that helps to convince them of opinions and points of view.

5- Make the other person speak freely: The most likely thing to convince the other party is to give them the opportunity to take the helm of the conversation and speak with complete freedom, it is preferable to refrain from interrupting them, as long as they have not completed speaking, and to listen patiently and consciously, and to encourage them to express their opinions.

6 - Seeing things from the other side's point of view: The person who is being persuaded may be wrong, but he did not acknowledge his mistakes, and blame may not work to make him admit his mistake and be convinced of the truth. It is better not to be blame him Instead, he needs to be understood, patiently sought after, to appreciate his point of view, and to look at things from his point of view, and whoever wants to persuade will find that an invisible reason has inspired the other person to think as he thinks. Or to behaves as he behaves, and he is convinced of what I want to convince him of.
