Nephrologist Dr. Yekaterina Rusakova declared that sepsis is one of the consequences of kidney disease. The specialist points out that the serious disease of sepsis (blood infection), which infects the entire body, is one of the consequences of pyelonephritis.
According to the doctor, anyone can get pyelonephritis, including children under one year-old. Symptoms of this disease include high body temperature (above 38°C), lower back pain (usually on one side), bad breath, cloudy urine, nausea and vomiting.
She says, "These symptoms may be accompanied by discomfort, pain, difficulty urinating. When the disease turns into a chronic condition, the symptoms and pain practically disappear. Therefore, we notice that children cannot accurately locate the pain, and they usually complain of abdominal pain."
According to her, the cause of this disease is often the access of E. coli to the kidneys through the urethra and bladder. Therefore, females are more likely to contract the disease in this way due to the short length of the urethra and the proximity of the genitals and intestines to it.
And she adds: Congenital anomalies, chronic diseases, diabetes mellitus, genetic predisposition, can causes be the cause of this disease.
The specialist points out that the most serious complications of the disease are septicemia and poisoning syndrome with life-threatening dehydration, and purulent kidney damage with the risk of losing it. And if the disease turns into a chronic condition, it may lead to the loss of kidney function and a high level of arterial blood pressure. It is not excluded that when treating the disease with antibiotics that are widely used over long periods, poisoning may occur in the various organs and systems of the body.
